A Playground for Remixing Literature.
LiteraryDJ is a platform for creativity and research. We build tools that let readers, students, and scholars work with public domain literature in new ways, from remixing lyric fragments to testing an interpretation by playing with it.
The work combines humanistic inquiry with interactive design: we care about how algorithms feel in the hand, how interfaces invite play, and how scholarship can meet audiences in galleries, classrooms, and online.
002People behind the project
LiteraryDJ invites contributions to its public experiments from people with a range of skills and backgrounds, including research, design, art, development, and engineering.

Students at UMD have used LiteraryDJ as both a research instrument and an educational tool, testing ideas in natural language processing, visual design, and data visualization while creating lasting contributions to the project.
003A-Side / B-Side
LiteraryDJ carries one core idea across two distinct contexts. One side leans toward public performance and cultural experience; the other turns the same medium into a tool for inquiry, learning, and institutional collaboration.

The public-facing side: performances, installations, and releases that turn public domain literature into an event, with the immediacy of music.
Flip the record and the same system becomes a tool for research and teaching. Scholars, students, and partners test interpretations by playing with them.
